09:00-13:00 Marine cargo insurance cover clauses

  • Cargo Clauses Explained – Understanding and analysing the main clauses (Inst. Cargo Cl. A, B, C), Focus on Transit Clause
  • Cargo Clause Exclusions Explained – Focus on the exclusions in Clauses 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the (A), (B) and (C) clauses, ie the types of loss or damage which underwriters expressly do not cover, and which can be bought back under specialist wordings.
  • Other Institute and non-institute Clauses – Focus on Trade Clauses, Inst. Cargo Clause Air, Inst. Frozen Foods and Frozen Foods (Extension); Non-institute clauses

  • Workshop – Market Presentation – Participants to work in teams on a case study assigned on the day
  • Types of loss and measure of Indemnity – We will look at the various types of loss that can arise to cargo and consider how the type of loss affects how the claim will be adjusted.
  • Practical Claims Workshop – Guided Practical Exercises

  • Presentation on Malta Freeport Terminals Facilities
  • Visit to the Freeport’s Control to view the various sections of the Freeport’s Operations Department – Berthing, Ship and Yard Planning and Equipment Control
  • View the Freeport’s facilities from the Penthouse Terrace

The Valletta Walking Tour focuses around the top sights in Valletta starting from the baroque heart of the city centre and venturing into its beautiful outskirts.

This tour is jam-packed with exciting information about the 500-year-old history of the City and fun-filled with anecdotes as conveyed to us by the locals.


Step into a world frozen in time as you embark on our Mdina walking tour. With a 4000 year storyline, Mdina, the old Capital City of Malta is rich in historical events and intriguing anecdotes. The City was the host of prominent personalities such as the Apostle Paul, it survived invasions, earthquakes and also witnessed the rise and fall of various invaders like the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Turks, Knights, French, British and much more.

People referred to it in various ways throughout the years from “Città Notabile” to the “Silent City”. Through this walking tour, we will help you explore the winding roads of Mdina, hidden behind its imposing walls.

The tour ends in the main square of the next door of the quaint town of Rabat. The tour is filled with exciting historical information and fun-filled stories that are not documented in the normal guide books.


Norbert Cordina

Mr  Norbert Cordina started his career in insurance in 1994 after completing his Applied Insurance Study Course with the Malta Insurance Training Centre. Following this he obtained the Diploma in Insurance Studies from the Chartered Insurance Institute, and after he furthered his studies at the University of Malta, where he successfully completed a Bachelor of Commerce Course majoring in Banking & Finance and Management. He continued to specialise in the field of management and in 2008 he was conferred a Masters Degree in Business Administration cumlaude, with a thesis entitled ‘Professionalism in the field of Insurance’.

Over the years, Mr Cordina attended various specialised courses on Marine Insurance. Today, he lectures Marine Insurance at the University of Malta. Norbert Cordina joined the Island Insurance Brokers in 2007 as a Manager in the Marine & Aviation Department, after working in different roles within the local insurance industry. In 2018, he was promoted to Senior Manager (Commercial Department), where he is responsible for managing and developing the Broking and Business Development teams within the Commercial Department and servicing key corporate clients. Norbert is also involved in the analysis of Business Process with the aim of improving processes and increasing efficiency in certain areas within the company’s operation.
