Have you completed your CPD hours?

22 Nov 2021

Insurance practitioners who are distributors of insurance products and services must complete a minimum of 12 hours structured learning and 3 hours unstructured learning as part of the regulatory CPD requirements, as requested by the Malta Financial Services Authority.

December presents an opportunity for those who need to complete this requirement, with MITC organising 5 online CPD sessions each of 2 hours duration, prior to the commencement of the festive season.

Our next CPD sessions

Compliance has featured throughout the year in the MITC schedule of events. This is not a coincidence since this area has been the highlight of regulators globally after leaks and corruption have thrown the international world into a frenzy of control procedures and scrutiny. Regulators have understandably stepped up their supervision and have developed updated mechanisms of checks and balances to ensure the smooth and clean running of the businesses they regulate.

On the 1 December, MITC will deliver a session entitled "What to expect during a conduct compliance inspection". The presenter has first-hand experience with the conduct of compliance inspections and will be sharing real experiences in this regard.

From feedback received, MITC has learnt that more training for Directors is needed by the training fraternity in the financial services training sector. In this respect, a session has been purposely developed on the Directors obligations under the AML/CFT regime, which is intended to provide a quick guide to the directors’ responsibilities in the field of AML. Moreover, reacting to feedback on this matter, MITC is also offering another programme for Directors during which more board room obligations and responsibilities will be discussed.

An insurance technical session on underwriting is also scheduled for the first week of December. An experienced practitioner will be delivering the session headed as “Underwriting in 2025 - a technological outlook of insurance business”.

The 2021 MITC CPDs calendar comes to an end with a practical session on customer due diligence for AML purposes where we will discuss and share tools and methods that can be used to filter clients.

Training at MITC

MITC ensures that the training is diverse and far-reaching offering an opportunity to all those seeking to comply with the 12 hours of formal structured training. In this respect, we encourage to spread your training obligation throughout the year. We suggest you visit our site at https://www.mitcentre.com/cpds/ to check out what is relevant for your needs.

The CPD sessions planned by the MITC have been tailored in response to feedback received by the market asking for particular topics to complement their professional work. The CPD talks intend, above all, to provide the attendees updated and first-hand information on matters relevant to the business world.
