Description

Motor Insurance (M94) provides an understanding of the risks faced by the various types of motor vehicles and the legal requirements associated with motor insurance. It includes relevant case law and an overview of the different types of motor insurance products available from the general insurance market in the UK.

The study text considers the nature of motor risk and the scope of cover provided by motor policies. It looks at the main practices of motor insurance, underwriting and the claims considerations and procedures.

Key legislation governing motor insurance, the Road Traffic Act (RTA), is also examined and the impact of European legislation on UK laws and the provision of motor insurance. The role of the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) in tackling uninsured and untraced drivers is covered including the levels of protection offered.

Objectives

At the end of this unit (M94), candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the different types of motor risk and the compulsory insurance requirements.

Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course however a good command of the English language is expected and familiarity with business subjects is also considered to be an asset. The CII recommends an 'O' level standard of education and/or the Certificate in Insurance (CertCII). 

This course is ideal for anyone seeking to gain knowledge and understanding of motor insurance and how this competitive insurance market operates. This subject is also relevant for anyone involved in the insurance profession or a service provision capacity.

Motor Insurance (M94) counts towards a Diploma in Insurance. It also counts towards the Advanced Diploma in Insurance.

Up to 8/10 sessions per unit (depending on unit chosen) of 1.5 hours, held once weekly between 1730-1900hrs. A further 90 hours of self-study are required for each of the units chosen.

Mr Hubert Said

Mr Hubert Said joined GasanMamo Insurance in 1999 as part of the Motor Claims Department. After 11 years, he was promoted to a management position in the Motor underwriting Department. After 5 years in this position, he then moved on to the Network Department as a Customer Advocate and took care of the top tiered clients of the company servicing all of the insurance related requirements. Mr Said served as the technical point of reference for underwriting and claims matters including both motor and non-motor insurance business. Mr Said is also responsible for the branches and tied insurance intermediaries of GasanMamo Insurance.

Mr Hubert Said is a fully qualified insurance professional having attained the Associateship from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). He is a regular lecturer at MITC and has been providing such services since 2011.
